A New Jersey Ice Cream Favorite Returning
In July 2021, Klondike, the company that makes Choco Tacos and other ice cream favorites, announced they were discontinuing the production of the Choco Taco.
It was an unexpected move. Choco Taco was a fan favorite. How could this happen?
Will Choco Taco suffer the same fate as other favorites from the past? Do you remember the Häagen-Dazs Crème Brulée?
Choco Taco Invented in Philadelphia
To make matters worse, this ice novelty has its roots in nearby Philadelphia.
It was invented in 1983 by a guy who sold ice cream for Jack and Jill Ice Cream.
Okay, so if you don't know what a Choco Taco is, let me tell you, one bite and you'll be hooked.
What is a Choco Taco
They take the stuff they use for waffle cones and fold it over so it looks like a taco shell.
They fill the shell with ice cream, fudge, and nuts, and then it's covered in a chocolate coating.
The cool thing about this ice cream creation is it's easy to eat. You open the wrapper and hold the taco in place with the wrapper when you eat it.
This was particularly important during the summer when you are driving around.
You could deal with it single-handedly and not drip ice cream all over.
Then, in 2022, they disappeared to be forever gone. Or is it?
The ice cream people of the world rose and made their voices heard.
Taco Bell Saves Choco Taco
Today, Taco Bell announced they were teaming up with a company called Salt and Straw to resurrect the Choco Taco.
The companies are working to perfect the new Choco Taco, but it already sounds exciting.
They're even creating dipping sauce for them. We're talking Chocolate Chili, Cinnamon Wild Berry, and Mango Jalapeño, sauce. Pinch me. Am I dreaming?
Expect the Choco Taco to return later this year.
