Have you ever been driving through New Jersey and suddenly had to do a double take because of a street sign?

I have.

Recently, I wrote about some of the weirdest street names in New Jersey, and I had you pick the most weirdest name.

There were plenty of unusual names to choose from, including Double Trouble Road, Easy Street, Nutswamp Road, Purgatory Road, Hoes Lane, Sesame Street and No Name Street. I had you vote, you chose the best and weirdest one, I agree.

And The Winner Is…

Shades of Death Road!

Located in Warren County, this one is hard to beat when it comes to the weirdest street name in New Jersey.

Honestly, I knew a handful of these, but several were completely new to me. It just goes to show that no matter how long you've lived in New Jersey, there's always something that can surprise you.

New Jersey Has Some Interesting Road Names

Think about some of these:

Double Trouble Road — Toms River

Easy Street — Howell Township

Nutswamp Road — Middletown Township

Purgatory Road — Southampton Township

Yep. Shades of Death Road.

You Have To Do A Double Take

Some of these road names have been around for generations, while others have become famous simply because they're so unusual.

But when you're driving through New Jersey and see a sign that says Shades of Death Road, I think most of us would have to take a second look.

It's one of those New Jersey road names that makes you stop and say, "What?"

And that's exactly why I think Shades of Death Road deserves the title of New Jersey's weirdest street name.
