Let's get the most obvious one out of the way first. Unless you have absolutely no choice, New Jersey residents know to avoid the Garden State Parkway south on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and stay away from the northbound side on Sunday.

It's a pretty safe bet to stay off the Parkway every day of the week in the summer if you can, just to be on the safe side.

More New Jersey Roads To Avoid

Another of the big 3 roads to avoid during a Jersey summer is Route 35. It leads to all the popular Jersey Shore destinations just like the Parkway, but Route 35 adds traffic lights to make it a little more interesting.

Another problem with Route 35 is that is a road that literally can't be avoided by most locals, no matter how hard we try.

The other "road" to avoid is Ocean Ave, Ocean Rd., or whatever a particular town calls the road that is the one that hugs the beach or boardwalk. A million pedestrians, a lot of confused drivers, and no parking make it the perfect recipe to land on this list.
