Summer is fast approaching at the Jersey Shore, and people are starting to get excited.

Just last weekend the boardwalk in Seaside Heights was packed with people out and about enjoying the beautiful sunny Easter day.

Before you get ready to suit up this summer though, be aware that some changes are coming to a very popular New Jersey beach that could potentially change how you enjoy your surfing and sand days.

Brick Beach Has Now Banned Beach Tents And Canopies

This is supposed to be a one-year ban so that officials can make repairs to Brick Beach 1,2, and 3.

Brick Beach 1 and 3 are the primary ones used for people who want to enjoy a day at the beach while fishers and surfers mainly use Brick Beach 2.

The ban is because the beach is smaller than it was a few years ago from the area in front of the dunes down to the ocean, so space is at a premium.

Shore Beat reports there is an effort to repair the beach, but that project is taking longer than expected.

When Does The Brick Beach Canopy Ban Go Into Effect?

It's for the 2024 beach season, so it will go into effect on Memorial Day Weekend and end on Labor Day weekend.

The ban does not include your traditional smaller beach umbrellas so you're good to still bring that with you.

The ban also makes an exception for smaller "baby" canopies that are used for small children to block the sun, so long as they are no longer than 40 inches by 40 inches.

Brick Beach Isn't The Only NJ Beach To Have A Canopy Ban

On Barnegat Island alone, Lavallette has a ban on canopies that are larger than ten by ten feet in order to preserve space for beachgoers.

Seaside Heights also has a canopy/tent ban on tents that are larger than 12 by 12 feet.

Seaside Heights is my beach of choice, and trust me, when there are hundreds of canopies and tents set up it's almost impossible to find a place to set up.

Oh, and if you do visit the Shore this year, be sure to leave a review!
