Iggy Azalea Opens Up About Seeking Treatment for Mental Health
Iggy Azalea got super candid about the time she sought treatment for her mental health.
Two years ago, the rapper’s management team encouraged her to seek help after the tumultuous couple of years she had. In 2016, she ended her relationship with fiancé Nick Young after a huge cheating scandal, which took a toll on her mental health. But though she knew she needed time to heal, she resisted treatment at first.
Now, in a new interview with Cosmopolitan, Azalea discussed why she decided to give in and get the help she needed to not "f--k up [her] life." She explained, "They just didn't want me to f--k up my own life, basically. I just couldn't get out of functioning at this insanity level. Where you're like, 'Whoa, hold on, don't operate the vehicle.'"
The 29-year-old said she spent two weeks talking to a therapist about everything that was going on in her life, including her childhood and “not being able to separate well-intended criticism from trolling.”
She also realized that being in the public eye at such a young age affected her. “The whole thing was very overwhelming,” she said. “You’re suddenly mega f---ing famous within a few months.”
Thankfully, she was able to overcome it and is now looking to make a comeback with her new album, In My Defense.
"You get as many shots as you are able to persevere for in life, no matter what you do," she said. "You get as many chances as you're willing to sit there and fucking really fight for tooth and nail. And I'm not going to stop fighting for a second chance until somebody f---ing gives me one and then I'm not going to f--k it up."
