Hope Solo became more known to many around the world for her 4th place finish on Dancing With The Stars in 2011, and her revealing cover shot on ESPN Magazine that same year.  Now Hope makes news before her Olympic run begins - and the news is shocking!

The 30-yr-old star of the national Women's Soccer team became a hit with Maksim Chmerkovskiy during her DWTS run, proving once again most athletes who go on the show seem to succeed.  Solo put a face with a struggling sport that hoped for attention and an audience to watch Team USA in the Summer Olympics (just weeks away in London).

Sadly today comes news from various sources that the goaltender has failed a drug test before the Olympics.  Solo tested positive for the banned substance Canrenone.

The good news here is that it has been proven that Hope Solo did not knowingly take this banned substance, and there was no proof that she used to gain an unfair advantage.

Solo said in a statement today that she had been prescribed a pre-menstrual medication and was not aware it contained any banned substances.  She cooperated with the U.S.Anti-Drug Agency and provided them with the necessary information to prove that it was a mistake.  Her story checked out and she was cleared with a public warning.

Hope Solo's reputation may take a hit, but it should be noted that Olympic drug testing is the most rigorous testing in athletics today.  Testing is done for all banned substances, and for potential masking drugs.  The International Olympic Committee is not preventing Solo from playing, so why should a warning even have been issued if this was truly an honest mistake?

Sadly the answer is simple - the damage has been done by the athletes who have come before Hope and have been caught.
