Foles the Bald Eagle Returns To Cape May Zoo

I brought my family down to the Cape May County Zoo during the summer to see the baby zebra that had just been born. While we were there, I noticed a handful of exhibits were not opened to the public, like the reptile house and the bird house. The eagle enclosure was also undergoing renovations, but those renovations are done and the eagles are back at the Cape May Zoo!

The improved enclosure is 80 feet long and 20 feet high, which gives "Foles" the bald eagle a chance to spread his wings. Foles was brought to the zoo in late 2017, and was named after Nick Foles led the Eagles to the first Super Bowl championship (as a Giants fan, I still shudder at that thought). The Zoo said that Foles had a "tough start" in life, but was a resilient fighter and is stronger than ever.

Bald eagles have a lifespan of about 20 years in the wild, but can reach up to 40 in captivity. The wild population has been growing lately, which is awesome. I've seen a few flying around Ocean County, so hopefully the population will continue to increase.

You can see Foles and all the other animals at the Cape May Zoo, open every day from 10am to 4:30pm. Pandemic restrictions are still in effect, so admission will be limited and masks must be worn at all times. The Reptile House and Aviary are still closed, but you can still check out the outdoor birds and all the other animals.
