Smoke could be seen from the Atlantic City Expressway as far as 15-20 miles away, but once you approached Exit 28 toward Route 322 the smoke was as dark as night about 2:15 this afternoon.  This fire is still burning in the vicinity of 8th Street around 322, and it will take some time before this blaze is completely stopped.

Sarah Watson from The Press of Atlantic City reports that it was early this morning when smoke was first seen.  Fire crews located the heart of the fire around 8:45am, and about 115 acres have bet set a blaze as of noon.

Good news right now is that there is no threat to any homes of business because of "the remote area" of the fire, but travelers around the area should expect slower driving conditions.  I can say driving around the area on the Expressway, other cars were slowing down to see the smoke - be careful and be alert this afternoon.

The fire is considered to be about 20% contained as of 3pm - Stay with SoJO's website for more details.
