Erma Man’s Body Found at Water’s Edge on Cape May Beach
The Cape May County Prosecutor and the Cape May Police Department are investigating the death of an Erma man whose body was discovered in the surf near Philadelphia Avenue in Cape May early Monday morning.
According to a press release from Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland, police found the body of Kevin Lare, 21, of Erma, Lower Township, lying at the water’s edge between Madison and Philadelphia Avenues in Cape May at about 1:30am Monday.
The Cape May Police Department had received a call of an unresponsive person in the water in the area of Jefferson Street and the beach Sunday at 8:44pm, but a search by patrol units was unsuccessful in locating the man.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and there is no indication of foul play.
Authorities warn about the potential of dangerous rip currents and rough surf conditions and advise you not to swim during dangerous conditions, at night, or when lifeguards are not present.
The Cape May Beach Patrol responded to and conducted 48 ocean rescues of swimmers during a two day period from August 1st through August 2nd.
