Within Atlantic, Cape May, and Ocean County, sexting cases have increased specifically in schools according to reports.

Young teenagers are constantly on their phones texting and using social networks. It's part of their everyday lives to constantly share photos and texts between each other. But local prosecutors and school officials have been receiving reports of an increase of sexting among young people. The case have not been made public because it deals with children, but prosecutors and officials want young people to understand what exactly can happen when they send their pictures to their boyfriend or girlfriend. These photos can end up distributed throughout the school, or even worse - be displayed on a pornographic site.

According to James Halfpenny, director of Youth Services for Atlantic County, he has handled six to eight dozen cases last year alone. Whereas in Cape May, Prosecutor Robert Taylor has handled 26 sexting cases.

Sexting can overlap with cyber-bullying if not properly addressed, and is exposing young people that could lead to terrible consequences.
