Tomorrow marks the start of National Drug and Alcohol Facts week.  It’s goal is to link students and experts to shatter the myths about drugs and alcohol that teens get from the internet, social media, TV, movies, music, or from friends. Many are not aware of how significantly drugs and alcohol can affect their education and dangers it poses to their health.

While many of us talk to our kids about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, more than 5% misuse prescription drugs, 20% smoke weed, and 35% drink underage. The week of Monday, January 23rd to the 29th, we are reminded to talk with our children about drug and alcohol use.  This week was launched by scientists at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to stimulate educational events in communities so teens can learn what science has taught us about drug use and addiction. This Thursday, January 26, they are holding their tenth annual DRUGS & ALCOHOL CHAT DAY.

During this free live online chat, students from around the country ask questions about drugs, alcohol, and drug use, including drug and alcohol effects, how to help friends or family that are abusing drugs, and what causes addiction. To register for this online chat, go to www.drugabuse.gov.   In the meantime, you and your teen can test your knowledge of drugs and alcohol in this Free Drug and Alcohol Quiz
