Thanks to a new study, scientists can now prove that dogs actually understand what we are saying.

According to Science's study, dogs learn to associate certain praise words and also understand the tone of your voice.

In the study, the dogs' brains were monitored to see what happens when they listened to words of praise like "super" and neutral words like "however." Both words were said in happy/praise and neutral tones.

Scientists discovered dogs are able to process vocabulary as well as recognize certain distinct words regardless of the person's tone of voice.

They also have trigger words that deal with food, sex, or being petted...basically anything that is rewarding. These words were only heard if said in a positive tone of voice.

The only thing that popped to mind while learning this, is an argument I once had with  my mother that our dog had zero idea what we were saying...sorry mom!

She was right, dogs actually do know who's "a good boy."
