The Garden State Parkway was literally littered with clams this morning.

The Press of Atlantic says a tractor trailer carrying some 450 bushels of clams overturned this morning in Bass River.

The crustacean crisis caused a backup nearly three miles long.

The driver of the overturned truck also had to be taken to the hospital. Police say he should make a full recovery.

It took police nearly six hours to clean up, and backups were still being reported in that area into the afternoon.
