When it was invented, it was intended to be a new type of wallpaper, but didn't work out as such. Now, we use it almost every day for something else, and some people can't stop squeezing it!

Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes invented bubble wrap in 1957 as a three dimensional wallpaper of sorts. Nobody bought the wallpaper idea, but 3 years later, the Sealed Air Corporation (co-founded by Fielding) wanted to use it for packing material - and the rest is history.

Sealed Air Corporation was founded in Elmwood Park, New Jersey, but is now based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
