The U.S. State Department advises that if you need to renew your passport do so as soon as possible. They're expecting to have a high surge of passport applications this year.

Apparently in 2006 and 2007, millions of people applied for passports when it became requirement if you wanted to go to Mexico, the Caribbean and Canada. So, fast-forward 10 years, all those people are now up for renewal.

I had to think back to when I last renewed my passport, and luckily for me I still have some time. BUT, considering its 2016, you can only imagine how many people are probably rushing to get their passports done.

So, officials advise you get your passports renewed ASAP, because you can always count on those people to renew at last minute. Besides, better late than sorry right?

FYI: the new rule that state driver's licenses are no longer enough (according to Homeland Security and the TSA) will cause a surge in applications too.

Passport renewals are currently $110, and for a new passports its $135.
