Mycoplasma Genitalium (MG) is a sexually transmitted infection most of you have never heard of. Yet, this STI is now impacting an increasing amount of people in Great Britain.

Mycoplasma Genitalium like most other STIs is transmitted through unprotected sex, and emerged first in the 1980s. New findings in a recent study in the International Journal of Epidemiology, show a great sense of urgency surrounding its status among individuals who are sexually active and aren't using protection. The findings show that adults between 25 through 44 are more likely to test positive for MG, and those who have had more than four partners in a year had a high rate of contracting it.

In addition to the research, 90 percent of men never report any symptoms while 50 percent of women reported symptoms. Women who reported the symptoms experienced vaginal bleeding after sex. If the infection is left untreated it can cause pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility in women.
