A speeding driver lost control of his sport utility vehicle on the Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township and crashed just before midnight last night.  The vehicle landed on its roof sending the driver to the hospital and shutting down traffic for two hours.

The crash reportedly happened at 11:06 p.m. Sunday on the Black Horse Pike near the Tilton Road interchange by Shore Mall, 6abc.com reports.

Police say the SUV, being driven by 40-year old German G. Gomez-Miralda, rolled over several times before resting on its roof in a nearby wooded area.

Authorities say speed was the catalyst for the accident.

Gomez-Miralda was being treated for serious injuries at AtlantiCare City Campus Trauma Center.

The scene investigation and cleanup detoured area traffic for nearly two hours.
