We're already halfway through the month of October, which means November is just around the corner.  I'm sure you've heard of "Movember" or "No Shave November," which encourage men to nix shaving their faces to raise awareness for health issues like prostate and testicular cancer, among others.  Movember's cause is noble, but before this month of facial hair indulgence, there's a day meant to celebrate the other side of the spectrum.

My name is Tom, I'm a Fall Digital intern for SOJO, and I would consider myself challenged when it comes to growing a beard.  While I enjoy having hair on my face, with October 18th being National No Beard Day,  I think I need to make a change.  After all, the motto is "the smoother the face, the bigger the celebration."

While not much can be found in terms of the history behind this unique day of honor for all those babyfaces out there, one could presume that this day is the set up to No Shave November, while the full National Shave Day ends the razor-negligent journey on December 1st.  For this year's No Beard Day, this intern reluctantly decided to partake and shave his off.

Its been a few months since my last shave, actually around late August in preparation for my interview.  In the time since, I've grown an interesting "I play Dungeons and Dragons"-esque style of patchy beard, regardless of never once rolling any 20 sided dice.  Before I stumbled (or stubbled) upon No Beard Day, my plan was to let it grow for as long as possible, until I finally got tired of it.  But in any case, maybe shaving will provide me with some extra boyish charm, although it's more likely that I'll just resemble Jonathan Lipnicki before he got all buff.

On a brisk Tuesday afternoon, I grabbed the finest Edge shave gel, and my Gillette styler and I was ready to get to work.  In contrast with my usual routine, I tried out a new face scrub and wash, which left me feeling pampered post-shave.

A hesitant, but happy No Beard Day.

I can't say I'm the biggest fan of my clean-cut appearance, due in part to my double chin.  But, starting with a fresh face for November feels right.  Hopefully, some of you out there are also celebrating and will raise awareness for Men's health during Movember.  Until then though, let's all try to enjoy our stubble-less chins on National No Beard Day.
