Another devastating blow is about to hit in what has been a crazy year for Atlantic City.

We've heard the rumors for quite some time now, and sadly, the rumors are true.  According to the Press of Atlantic City, The Showboat Atlantic City Hotel and Casino will announce Friday that it could close soon, a union leader said.

2,100 workers will be without jobs.  That's the first thing that comes to my mind in hearing this news, which in itself, hurts the city even more with it's increased unemployment rate.  I've had so many great memories at Showboat, mainly at House of Blues.  I got to see many amazing concerts at the venue, including the SoJO 104.9 10th Birthday Concert starring Neon Trees.

'The fact that Caesars would close a casino that continues to be profitable … is a criminal act upon the citizens of Atlantic County,” said Bob McDevitt, president of Unite HERE Local 54.  State Sen. Jim Whelan added “It’s very disappointing and very frustrating, and I feel terrible for the people who will be losing jobs.”

I second all of that.

So for now, all we can do is wait.  We'll wait and hear whatever news that this 'announcement' will bring today, and hope to enjoy Showboat for the limited time we have left.
