Archbishop John Carroll high school junior Amanda Dougherty had the dress, the flowers, and the date.  But when her prom escort cancelled on her at the last minute, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia banned her from attending alone.

Should she have been permitted to go to stag to prom? Take today's poll!

17-year old Amanda Dougherty spent more than $1,000 (the average cost of prom this year) getting herself semi-formal ready.  When her date bailed, she intended to make the best out of the situation and spend the night celebrating with her classmates.  But a diocesan rule which declares prom a formal social engagement requiring a date, she was forced to stay away.  Doughtery, who hopes to fight to have the ruling for future students,  tells CNN:

“For them to say that we’re not good enough to go unless we have a guy standing next to us, it’s just kind of sickening,”

Take our poll and tell us if you think the ruling was fair!
