When details surrounding the Gentleman of the Road Stopover first surfaced, I thought it was really cool that the town was offering camping on the beach. If you missed out, Seaside is giving you more opportunities this summer.

Seaside Heights is inviting you to spend a night on the Hiering Avenue beach. According to the borough website, the events will be held:

  • Thursday, July 2
  • Friday, July 31
  • Saturday, August 29

Participants must pre-register by the end of the Monday before each camping date. Applications can be e-mailed to asommerer@seaside-heightsnj.org or mailed to Borough of Seaside Heights, 901 Boulevard, Seaside Heights, NJ 08752.

Registration forms can also be filled out online or picked up at Borough Hall. Visitors must bring their completed forms to the registration table on the night of the event. They will be given a tent number and guest wristbands.

Campers can bring coolers and food to the camping area. No campfires, propane, kerosene or lanterns are permitted on the beach. But the borough will build a bonfire. No alcohol or glass bottles are permitted.

No swimming is allowed during the night and no lifeguards will be on duty. The borough will impose ”quiet hours” from midnight to 7 a.m. each night. No amplified sound is permitted in the camping area.

Seaside Heights police will patrol the camping area between dusk and dawn. Visitors will receive registration numbers that must be secured to outside of their tents.

“If the number is not visible, you will be asked to pack up and leave the camping area,” the website states.

Bathroom facilities will be open overnight. There is also a privately managed shower concession on Webster Avenue that will be open.

Visitors are expected to bring their own camping gear and must unload their vehicles at the Hiering Avenue beach entrances.

If lightning occurs during the night, the beaches will be cleared until it is safe to allow visitors to return. Campers must clear the beach no later than 10 a.m.
