The alcohol poisoning death of 19-year-old Rutgers University student Caitlyn Kovacs has moved the school to put a stop to frat and sorority mixers for the remainder of the spring semester.

"Rutgers takes seriously its commitment to maintaining a healthy and safe campus environment," the university said in a statement.

Spring formals are still on the table, and the New Brunswick institution has cleared other off campus where a third-party vendors offer alcohol.

The ban is just an exclamation point at the end of a string of alcohol related incidents at Rutgers. Reaction from students involved in Greek organizations on campus have been mixed following the ruling, 6abc.com reports.

Caitlyn Kovacs of Monmouth Junction died of alcohol poisoning after a party in September.
