Revel Announces Its Official Closing Dates
Earlier this week, Revel announced it would be closing its doors by September 10th. We now know exactly when Revel will close and it's before that date.
According to published reports, Revel will close its hotel operations on September 1st at 11AM. The casino will close the following morning at 5AM.
The $2.4 billion casino opened just over two years ago and never turned a profit. It was due to be sold at a bankruptcy court auction, but that auction was postponed because no qualified bids were received.
For thousands of casino workers in the city, it could be a very dark Labor Day weekend. Showboat, if plans happen as they are scheduled, will close on August 31st, the day before Revel begins its shut-down. Trump Plaza is then slated to close September 16th, which is right after the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City.
Several South Jersey state lawmakers recently wrote to the Casino Control Commission, asking them to force Showboat and Trump Plaza to remain open another four months so potential buyers could be wooed, but the state said they cannot do so since it is a private business decision.
