Former New Jersey postal worker has plead guilty after stealing income tax refund checks amounting to over $400,000.

It's a real coincidence I came across this story on NBC Philadelphia. Since I filed my taxes, I have been patiently waiting for my tax return. Weirdly enough, one of my paranoia has been either it being lost OR someone stealing the refund check while I'm away visiting my parents for the weekend.

Well, turns out my paranoia wasn't completely wrong! According to NBC Philadelphia, Earl Champagne of Willingboro plead guilty to one count of theft of 'U.S. mail and one count of theft of government money.'

The former postal worker delivered mail in Pennsauken, admitted to stealing 72 treasury checks and gave it to people who are unnamed in the article. Apparently, these people paid him $50 per stolen check between March 2014-July 2014.

Pretty messed up, especially for the people who may have been relying on these checks to come in.

Currently, Champagne could potentially face more than 15 years in prison for each charge.
