Popular Cape May Restaurant Nearly Under Water Following Heavy Rain
Streets along the Jersey shore have experiencing flooding following two days of steady rain, several high tides, and the formation of storms off the eastern seaboard.
The Lobster House in Cape May, at the base of the causeway in Cape May Harbor, has been particularly affected by the excess water. As of Monday, the popular restaurant was doing damage control as floods reached it's lower level. This photo below posted by a Facebook user shows just how much water came in contact with the establishment.
The National Weather Service tells NJ.com that towns along the southern Jersey shore experienced the worst of a few tide cycles that pushed water on the bay side of Cape May reached 8 1/2 feet above normal level.
Tide surges are expected to continue as Hurricane Florence makes its way up the east coast. What direct impact the storm may have on our area remains to be seen.
