One nearby resident told NBC40:

“Never leave an infant in a bathtub,” said the man, “you know, stuff like this could happen. A lot of girls are doing it - figure just walk away and you can handle something real quick, but that real quick could be the end of it.”

The baby's 21-year old mother and two older children were present at the residence when police arrived.

In a statement to NBC40 Bridgeton Police Captain Michael Gaimari said:

"It appears at this time the child was left unattended in the bathtub for a certain period of time with the water running. The entire incident is still under investigation by our Criminal Investigation Bureau, the prosecutor's office and the New Jersey Dept. of Youth and Family Services."
