Over the summer, 229 (suspected) underage drinkers were arrested across 27 Jersey Shore towns.

WHOA, that's a high number.

It's not a secret that during the summer young people want to have a good time, usually with alcohol involved. Well, under the program, 'Cops in Shops,' police officers put underage drinking to a halt by going undercover.

Under this state run program, local departments place officers behind the counter at local liquor stores to catch underage people in the act. While some stores alert customers a police officer may be undercover behind the counter, I guess not all young people saw the message.

Attorney General Christopher Porrino says this program serves as a wake-up call before their poor choices end in tragedy.

'Cops in Shops' is in its 20th year, and also runs during the winter months through college towns.

It may seem a like a cruel trick to catch underage drinkers in the act, but when you think about all possible dangers involving young people, alcohol and driving...it's not so cruel.
