A woman who crashed her car and became trapped when it flipped over on her in Hamilton Township Sunday may have police and several onlookers to thank for saving her life.

The Press of Atlantic City is reporting that a woman crashed her car and had it overturn and land on her about 1:30 p.m. at Weymouth Road milepost 22 in Hamilton Township, police said.

Sgt. Michael Virga and seven passers-by lifted the vehicle enough for Sgt. Michael Schnurr to pull the driver from underneath it. She was flown by helicopter to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, in Atlantic City with serious injuries, police said.

The driver was southbound around a curve when she lost control of the car, went off the road and hit a tree, police said. She was ejected from the car as it flipped, and it came to rest upside down atop her, police said.

Good Samaritans who provided critical assistance were Maria Gallagher, Harry Gallagher, Nereida Santos, Michael Braunius, Mignalys Vidal, Savannah Asencio and Jason Sabol, police said.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
