This holiday season is seeing the return of some of our favorite Christmas characters in a different light - TV commercials.

You may see this as a bit sacrilegious to see the like of The Griswolds or Rudolph and the gang showing up in ads for the likes of Old Navy and Aflac, but from a business standpoint it does have the industry talking about these 30 second moments.

Chevy Chase (who recently announced he was leaving the NBC series Community after 4 seasons) decided to bring Clark Griswold back to life with his on-screen wife Beverly D'Angelo (Ellen) and Juliette Lewis back as their daughter (Audrey) for the "Pop Pants" at Old Navy.

The Griswolds bring back the classic tree lighting scene from 1989's Christmas Vacation, and the spot has created quite a buzz.  The commercial made its way to YouTube within the last 48 hours, and it has received over 500,000 views so far.

Meanwhile Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer first showed up for Aflac several years back, but the spot is seemingly getting a rebirth this holiday season.  If you have not run into this one, everyone is in this cute moment.

Rudolph is sick, there is Clarisse right by his side, along with Hermie, Yukon Cornelius, the Bumble, and of course Santa.  The duck shows up in an unlikely way.

Time to think about who may be next.  Maybe Heat and Snow Miser can plan their vacations through Expedia?
