A Northfield man is behind bars after being subdued by his 91-year-old female victim.

Northfield Police say early this morning they responded to a 911 call at a residence on Wabash Avenue.

Here's the report from police:

The investigation revealed that Michael S Flaherty Jr, 35 years of age residing in Northfield, NJ, was the suspect. Flaherty Jr forced his way into the rear of the residence by prying the back door open. Once inside he was confronted by the victim who recognized Flaherty Jr. The victim attempted to call 911 at which time Flaherty Jr and the victim struggled over the victim’s phone causing the victim to sustain lacerations. Flaherty stole money from the victim’s purse and fled the home. A search of the victim’s residence revealed that Flaherty had accidentally dropped his cellular phone during the struggle.
Officers responded to Flaherty’s residence on Wabash Avenue where they located Flaherty hiding in the house. Flaherty resisted arrest causing injuries to one officer before being taken into custody.
The investigation was conducted by Det DiMarco of the Northfield Police Department. Subsequent to the investigation Michael S. Flaherty Jr was charged with Burglary, Robbery, Assault, Theft, Criminal Mischief and Resisting Arrest. Flaherty Jr was lodged at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
