The northern lights show turned out to be a bust for New Jersey.

Many kept an eye on the skies over New Jersey and the northeast in hopes of seeing the light show that is rare to see this far south starting at 8 p.m.. There was an 8 hour window for the lights to be seen according the the initial report by Accuweather.com.

tweeted the bad news late Saturday night that the light show would not make it to New Jersey.

Accuweather Astonomy Facebook page but just not this far south. Skies were also partially covered by clouds over much of New Jersey on Saturday night.

The possibility of the northern lights came from a solar flare that send radiation towards Earth  traveling at a rate of 1,000km per second. The radiation may also cause interference with cell phones, GPS and radio, causing them to cut in-and-out.
