Residents at North Wildwood have voted against changing the city's name to 'Anglesea.'

The people have spoken!

Close to 62 percent in North Wildwood decided against the name change proposal, with the final tally of the vote being 961 to 636.

The proposal was placed on the ballot after over 100 people signed a petition this summer supporting the name change. Originally North Wildwood was called Anglesea from 1885 to 1906. The name change would have been a way for the city to get back to its roots.

North Wildwood residents believed the name change would cause confusion and potentially hurt local businesses. Some residents even suggested to unify all the Wildwoods (Wildwood, North Wildwood, West Wildwood, and Wildwood Crest) as one city.

Had the proposal been passed, it would have cost North Wildwood residents $20,000 to $30,000.

Wonder if a proposal for a unified city is in the works for the future.
