A new study by Cornell University reveals the reason why we cannot quit Facebook even though it's been proven to make us sad sometimes.

Facebook is our Internet watering hole, where you get to check on people you may not have seen in a while and check up on gossip. But there have been so many studies that say Facebook makes us sad, because people are rubbing their happiness in our faces. So why do we continue to use it?

Researchers studied a group of 5,000 people who were encouraged to stay away from Facebook for 99 days. Those who could not make it through the 99 days all happened to have the same qualities. They believed Facebook was too addictive. It was also found they tend to have compulsive and addictive behaviors, not necessarily revolving with substance abuse (it could be food addiction or shopping for example).

And even though Facebook may make us sad, those people who were sad continued to use it. Sort of like a Facebook sadness cycle. People who were positive found it easier to stay away.
