New Jersey police officers have rescued 67 puppies from a near-freezing van found behind a New Jersey pet store.

Paramus police spotted a parked van behind 'Just Pups' pet store off Route 17 around 3 a.m. Monday morning, NBC Philadelphia reports. When they approached the van, police could hear the puppies whining and the smell of urine and feces coming from the vehicle.

After opening the van, which belongs to the owner of the pet store, police immediately called animal control. NBC Philadelphia says, these puppies were left in the van in 38 degree weather. That's unbearable for us, imagine for them!

Some puppies were in need of medical attention and sent to the vet hospital. For now, Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Animal Cruelty Task Force have started their investigation.

Also, here's some interesting news from NBC Philadelphia: the owner, Vincent LoSacco, was charged with 267 counts of animal cruelty in FEBRUARY! The ironic thing is that he claimed the police officer who arrested him 'wrongly targeted' him in a video he posted to Facebook.

Now, I'm going to be bold and say that might not be the case. So far, there have been no arrests or charges filed. Still, I hope someone is held responsible soon.
