New Jersey Democratic leaders want to raise the state's minimum wage to $15 an hour under a new proposal.

6abc reports, Assembly Leader Vincent Prieto, Assemblyman John Wisniewski, and state Sen. Ray Lesniak will meet in Trenton to propose a new minimum wage in New Jersey.

Currently, the minimum wage for this state is $8.38/hour which comes out to $17,400 a year.

This isn't the first time the discussion of raising the minimum wage has been brought up. Gov. Chris Christie turned down the idea awhile back because it might hurt the state's economy. Meanwhile, if New Jersey raises the minimum to $15/hour, it could potentially face inflation so that is something to consider.

But Democratic leaders are seeing the need to address the increased poverty level in New Jersey, and this proposal might be what the state needs.

How do you think an increased minimum wage can affect this state's economy?  I would really love to see how an increased minimum wage can make or break New Jersey...
