One film critic has resorted to attacking the physical appearance of actress Melissa McCarthy while reviewing her performance in the new film 'Identity Thief'.

In the film opposite Jason Bateman, McCarthy plays Diana, a con artist with a love of excess, and the two take off on a wild adventure trying to escape criminals who are after the scheming identity thief.

The New York Observer's Rex Reed, not only trashed both Bateman and McCarthy's screen portrayals, he leveled some pretty harsh comments about the actress' weight.

Reed calls McCarthy a "cacophonous", "tractor-sized" and a "female hippo."

According to the HuffingtonPost.com Reed also says:

"Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids) is a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success," writes Reed. "Poor Jason Bateman. How did an actor so charming, talented, attractive and versatile get stuck in so much dreck?"

Yo Rex.  This woman was nominated for an Academy Award last year.  Someone thinks she's awesome you wreth!
