Lawmakers are now eyeing marijuana legalization in New Jersey after President-elect Donald Trump chooses U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions as his Attorney General.

Although Trump said during his campaign, it'll be up to states to decide whether or not they legalize marijuana, his appointment of Sessions has pro-legalization lawmakers worried.

Gov. Chris Christie has made a firm stance against its legalization, saying it could lead to the legalization of cocaine or heroin. According to AP, Christie mentioned on a radio show that he won't "poison" young people for potential tax revenue.

It appears, Sen. Jeff Sessions shares the same sentiments as Christie and is opposed to recreational marijuana. According to him, "good people don't smoke marijuana."

Lawmakers are divided on their stance in legalizing marijuana in New Jersey. Those who support its legalization also support its decriminalization, while others support its decriminalization but not its legalization.

Lawmakers in support of marijuana legalization still have every intention of moving forward after Christie's term ends in 2018. Now, it's just a ticking clock to see what happens next.
