The trial of David Creato Jr., accused in the killing 2015 of his 3-year old son Brendan, was scheduled to begin today but has been postponed because the defense requested more time to prepare an expert witness.

The judge overseeing the case in Camden County Superior Court agreed to reschedule Creato's trial to January 9, 2017, 6abc.com reports.  Creato's attorney was granted more time to obtain a report from a forensic medical examiner.

23-year old Creato, of Haddon Twp., has plead not guilty to murder and child endangerment charges. He remains behind bars on $750,000 bail.

Camden County prosecutors say Creato's son, Brendan, suffered "homicidal violence". They claim little Brendan got in the way of David's relationship with his teenage girlfriend.

Brendan went missing on the morning of October 13, 2015. He was eventually tracked to a stretch of woods off South Park Drive near Cooper River where a police K-9 discovered him dead.
A Mass marking the first anniversary of Brendan Creaturo's death will reportedly be held on October 15th at Holy Savior Church in Westmont.
