Will jitney service on Atlantic Avenue in Margate help alleviate parking problems or bring down property values? Are jitneys a good solution for getting home safely after partying at Margate bars or "drunk buses" that will cause late night bus stop disturbances?

It depends on whose opinion you were listening to during public comments concerning the proposed Margate jitney service, according to Shore News Today.

We are about to find out how jitneys will affect life in Margate, as the Board of Commissioners has approved a jitney route through the city on a 45-day trial basis.

Shore News Today reports that the jitney trial begins Thursday, May 26 and will continue on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Wednesday, July 13. Margate Commissioners will review the service at that time to determine if it will continue through the remainder of the summer.

The route will run from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. with stops in front of the banks on Atlantic Avenue, at Lucy the Elephant and at restaurants along Amherst Avenue.

Fares will be $3 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., and $4 from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
