Authorities believe the blaze at the Bellevue Hotel, just off  E. 8th Street and Ocean Avenue in historic Ocean City, began about 10:30 a.m. this morning.  Surrounding business and residence have been evacuated.

The Bellevue was scheduled for demolition, a project that began yesterday.  Reportedly, the construction sparked the fire.  NBC40.net reports the hotel roof is in danger of collapsing.

The high priority demolition may now be delayed beyond the initial 3 week estimation.
