Elite athletes from across the country will be in our neck of the woods this weekend for Sunday's Ironman 70.3 Atlantic City competition.

The Ironman 70.3 Atlantic City website describes what's happening this Sunday this way:

The race begins at sunrise with a 1.2-mile sheltered swim in the beautiful back bays of Atlantic City... [followed by a] single-loop bike course...56 flat and fast miles through vineyards, state forests, riverside towns, and a portion of the Atlantic City Expressway... finally, the 13.1-mile run course features striking views of the Atlantic Ocean on the world-famous Atlantic City Boardwalk...

Again, I stress the word "elite" when it comes to athletes who can tackle 70.3 miles of swimming, running, and cycling on a Sunday while most of us are drinking coffee and eating bacon.

If you are not going to be participating in the Ironman 70.3 Atlantic City, you will most likely get to experience it in the form of traffic delays across our area.

Shore News Today reports drivers can expect delays on the Black Horse Pike entering and leaving Atlantic City on Sunday, in addition to delays on Delilah, Tilton, and Moss Mill Roads across Egg Harbor Township, Pleasantville, Hamilton Township, Galloway, Egg Harbor City, and Mullica Township.
