How Did Vineland Get Its Name?

If you haven't noticed, we love digging into the history of our beloved South Jersey towns. In fact, we recently dove into Avalon's history and discovered that the name derives from the legend of King Arthur!

Meanwhile Hammonton was named after the son one of the towns earliest settlers, John Hammond Coffin, and Stone Harbor was named after a English Sea Captain named Stone who took shelter in town during a storm.

Today, we go behind the name of the city of Vineland located in Cumberland County. According to Wikipedia, the town became know as Vineland in the Summer of 1952, from parts of Landis Township and Vineland Borough. The founder of the town, Charles K. Landis, first purchased the land back in 1861 wanted to used the land to grow grapes.

There are so many fun things to do in Vineland including shopping on Landis Avenue, spending an afternoon at South Vineland Park, and having dinner at some of the top-rated restaurants including, Esposito's Maplewood III and Larry's II.
