Every year we always have "wishes" for the holiday season - The Gift we really wanted, the loved ones we need, the special someone under the mistletoe, Peace On Earth, a White Christmas, just getting to the holidays mostly unscathed, and the resolutions we hope to accomplish for the new year.  The last version for "The Playlist" this holiday season will be to make those wishes stand out musically (hopefully).

Over the last weeks, I've saluted Santa Claus and all his aliases, plus all the memorable characters of the holiday season (feel free to check out these past posts and all the great music).  This version of The Playlist takes all those things we really want this season, and there are 20 great songs that goes toward setting that tone with great classics combined with a few newer holiday songs.  Nothing against some of the newer holiday releases, but the best of the more modern sounding holiday songs came for me in the 80s and 90s.  You'll see that most these songs are timeless, reflect love, and those wishes we all appreciate this season.

One wish I had was trying to find a way to include Twisted Sister into The Playlist with "O Come All Ye Faithful", but the holidays are not about being selfish (although you should check it out just for fun!)  Happy Holidays to all, and to all an ultimate iPod shuffle of songs to fit all our wishes this year:

Britney Spears -My Only Wish This Year (she got her's alrerady - now engaged!)

Mariah Carey - All I Want For Xmas Is You (hello Nick Cannon)

U2 - Christmas {Baby Please Come Home} (feel the love in this song)

The Eagles - Please Come Home For Christmas (see U2 comment)

98 Degrees - This Gift (whatever this gift it is, it fulfills someone's wish)

Queen - Thank God It's Christmas (wish accomplished for Freddie)

David Bowie/Bing Crosby - Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth (we all wish for more peace in 2012)

Bon Jovi - I Wish Everyday Could Be Like Xmas (nice wish, but wopuldn't that take the fun out of the holiday?)

The Pretenders - 2000 Miles (wishing their loved-one was not so far away)

Josh Groban - Believe (wishes cannot come true without a little faith)

Owl City - Peppermint Winter (newer song that is worth buying off iTunes, and Peppermint Snow would be a great wish!)

Goo Goo Dolls - Better Days (the song wishes for hope, and is one of the group's very best!)

Christina Aguilera - This Christmas (every Xmas we wish is better than the last)

Squirrel Nut Zippers - Sleigh Ride (you know you want one, and this is the best version of the song period!)

Michael Buble' - White Christmas (we all wish for this, and Michael does Bing proud!)

Billy Squire - Christmas Is A Time To Say I Love You (Billy says in the song that he wishes this feeling will last all though the year)

Colbie Caillat - Mistletoe (helps with your kissing wishes)

Band Aid - Do They Know It's Xmas (the wish to Feed The World!)

Paul McCartney - Wonderful Christmastime (because a terrible and lonely Xmas would be a nightmare)

Dan Fogelberg - Same Old Lang Syne (Happy New Year, and stick to your resolutions)

May all your wishes come true this holiday season!
