The ocean at Atlantic City beach has been looking brighter than usual.

The ocean water has been a beautiful blue lately, have you noticed?

I'm sure many of us are used to the brownish dark color on our beaches. Lately, the water kind of looks like we're in the Bahamas and not South Jersey.

So what in the world is going on?

6abc News says, upwelling (when colder water is pulled up) brings nutrients to the surface that smaller organisms eat. Since there's so much food for them to eat, the micro-organisms are abundant.

A marine science professor at Stockton University says, these micro-organisms are called 'phytoplankton.' These phytoplankton contain chlorophyll, and when its exposed to sunlight it reflects a turquoise-green color in the water. (Patch.com/Press of Atlantic City)

But don't worry it's completely harmless! Just enjoy the view!
