It's one of the most heated debates in the food world: Is it sauce or is it gravy? When it comes to what to call pasta topping, people have a clear label. Leave it to the Hammonton Rotary Club to host a Gravy vs Sauce throwdown.

The 2nd annual competition took place Sunday at Hammonton Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2. where guests came to sample blends and decide for themselves whether it was sauce they just ate, or gravy.

I was raised by two Italian grandparents. Neither my Southern Italian grandmother or my Northern Italian grandfather (right off the boat, mind you) ever referred to marinara as 'gravy'. It was always 'sauce' in my household. But I bet you I couldn't walk down any street in North Eastern America without stumbling upon someone who swears it's gravy. What do you think?
