Gwen Stefani Is the Clear Winner In Gavin Rossdale Divorce Settlement
You’d think every celebrity couple who decides to enter into marriage would go the prenup route, if only to ensure protection of their assets should anything go sour enough to warrant divorce. Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, however, clearly believed their love to be truly enduring, because the two had zero legal protection in place before their split -- a decision that's actually working in Gwen’s favor.
According to California law, the absence of a prenup entitles both parties to an even 50% split of everything the two earned over the course of their marriage. This means Gavin should ultimately benefit from their divorce, as Gwen is worth significantly more. But TMZ reports the musician didn’t ask for a significant portion of Gwen’s concert and record earnings, so she ultimately comes out on top.
The two also split custody of their three kids evenly, though odds are likely Gavin will have them more often than Gwen due to her touring schedule. He also reportedly did not ask Gwen to pay child support, despite having grounds to do so based on the fact that she not only has more money, but has the potential to earn more than her ex-husband.
Gwen filed for divorce from Gavin back in August 2015, citing the typical “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split. But things took a turn for the acrimonious shortly after, when rumors began swirling online that Gwen ended things after discovering Rossdale was having an affair with one of the couple’s nannies.
