Shelby Buster says this was the first time she went shopping on her own. She and a friend hit the mall while Shelby's mom waited in the food court. Unfortunately, he first solo shopping experience wasn't a pleasant one.

With birthday money in hand, Shelby went to the young adult clothing store Rue 21. Her friend was already in the back of the store when a woman at the front counter allegedly said:

Hey you’re too big to be in this store, I need you to leave.

Shelby's friend quickly checked out and the two told Shelby's mother of the incident. The mother returned to the store to address the problem. The district manager was made aware of the issue and said that they were looking into it. The girl's mom has since had the girls document the incident in their own words.
