Few things get people more freaked out than sinkholes - and for good reason. This was a 20 foot deep sinkhole in New Jersey!

This sinkhole was in Mine Hill, New Jersey at the home of Andrew Kauff. It first started off as ONE hole and then in the middle of the night, Andrew heard a noise, and ANOTHER hole developed in his yard - just feet from his home!

The holes were caused by mines that were dug back during Revolutionary War times.

Geologically speaking (if that is a word), sinkholes are more common in North Jersey due to the type of soil and stuff underground. Fortunately sinkholes are not common in South Jersey, but when they do occur, are much more shallow.
