Watch where you step when you are walking along the beach in Long Beach Island. Portuguese Man-O-War have washed up on the beach!

These scary looking, stinging things are also called "Floating Terror" for the pain they inflict on their victims.

Two of the typically tropical species of Portuguese Man-O-War  (or man 'o war, you may sometimes see) were found on the beach in Beach Haven, and most recently these latest two were found in Avalon.

Beaches in Delaware have also seen an uptick in beached portuguese man-o-wars.

What makes this kind of a big deal is that the toxins in the PMOW can remain dangerous to people even after the blue - purple goopy things have been dead for a while.

Some people are speculating that ocean flow from the recent hurricanes could be responsible for the latest unwanted visitors to our area beaches.

And by the way, don't confuse them with jellyfish. They are not. They float on the water surface and are pushed by the wind and current.
