Fires that destroyed about 14 homes in Mantoloking that were hit hard by Sandy have rekindled, fueled by natural gas.

An official with the Ocean County Emergency Management Office says authorities believe natural gas lines are fueling the flames. The official says the homes burned down two days ago when Sandy pounded the affluent town.

It’s just about four miles north of Seaside Heights.  TV news helicopters show at least 15 blazes.  WABC TV reports several homes may have destroyed by fire or explosion.

First responders and emergency crews can’t get to them to put them out due to storm damage on the roads leading to Mantoloking from the mainland and Barnegat Bay.
